Ms. Florence Lowe-Lee is Managing Director at the organization. She has worked as Treasurer and Director of Finance and Publications at the Korea Economic Institute of America in Washington, DC since 1992. She handled all of KEI's financial and human resources matters while monitored and wrote articles on topics concerning Korea's social issues and their impact on Korea's macroeconomic future. Ms. Lowe-Lee also organized and supervised programs involving senior government officials from Korea and the United States, as well as visits by Korean National Assembly members.
Prior to joining KEI, Ms. Lowe-Lee worked as Deputy Director of Operations for the Massachusetts Senate Ways and Means Committee, where she participated in the senior committee decision-making process. She served as an adviser to the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment in its efforts to launch missions to Korea. She successfully organized and facilitated the first visit by a Massachusetts governor to Korea.
Earlier, Ms. Lowe-Lee worked as a research assistant at the Neuroanatomy and Neuroendocrinology Laboratory of Rockefeller University in New York City. She co-authored several articles that were published in Science, Neuroscience, and other scientific journals.
Ms. Lowe-Lee holds a B.A. in Neuroscience from Mount Holyoke College and received an M.A. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Columbia University.
As Market Analyst at the Global Business Institute, Ms. Rah regularly liaise with the Chambers of Commerce and other business organizations and representatives to discuss the possible avenue of collaboration. Prior to her current post, she was an executive assistant to the vice president of Marketing Department of CIGNA International in Seoul Korea. She played an instrumental role in negotiation a successful business contracts with GS Caltex, resulting in securing the database of more than 400,000 clients.
Ms. Rah has a long and distinguished career in the airline industry. She served as a corporate & expatriate sales executive for the British Airway, Qantas Airway, and Alitalia Airlines in Korea. As a customer relations manager, she was responsible for planning and implementing the market strategy to continue to improve the corporate client services. She also was an outreach coordinator where she regularly communicated and visited with travel agents, corporations, government agencies, etc.
During the 1988 Olympic Game in Korea, she was a member of the official French translator for Moroccan athletes and staff. Since 2012, she teaches Korean writing classes at the Korean school of New England, Boston, MA. Ms. Rah received BA in French from Hankook University of Foreign Studies in Seoul, Korea with minor in English language. She holds high school French teacher license and middle school English language teacher certificate.
As Energy Specialist, Mr. Daniel Hwang's responsibilities include researching and reporting on current international clean energy trends, US-Korea alliance issues, and other topics concerning environment/climate change. Additionally, he focuses on regulatory matters concerning technology transfer and R&D partnership. Prior to joining GBI, he worked as research assistant at the Korea Institute for Energy Research and Committee on Human Rights in North Korea.
Mr. Hwang first joined GBI in 2014 as research intern. Since then he decided to enroll Handong International Law School in Korea. Even as a student, Daniel worked remotely from Korea providing research support for GBI and participated in various projects. He received a B.A. in International Relations and Diplomacy from The Ohio State University and Juris Doctor (J.D.) from Handong International Law School and received a Master of Laws (L.L.M) from the Regent University School of Law.
Mr. Hugh Kim joined GBI as a Climate Change Analyst leading the Center for Environment Studies. His main responsibilities are to produce policy briefs, research papers, and reports to inform the public, government officials, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders about various environmental issues. He organizes meetings and seminars to discuss policy-relevant energy and technology issues, with a focus on international technologies that facilitate a low-carbon energy future. He attends international energy conferences/seminars and interacts and communicates regularly with technical and policy experts. His other area of expertise is international environmental law and follows closely the changes and new development. He designs and conducts podcast interviews with internationally renowned energy experts to promote further GBI’s mission. Mr. Kim is a licensed attorney of New York since 2020 and recieved a law degree from two different countries, the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign College of Law, the United States, and Youngsan University, Korea.
