Global Business Institute, Inc.(GBI) is an IRC 501(c) (3) research organization founded in 2011.
The Center For Korean Music and Culture Research (CKMCR) is an integral part of GBI. CKMCR has three main objectives in studying Korean music and culture. First and foremost, CKMCR is committed to the systematic development of Korean music and culture into a full-fledged discipline. Second, it aims to collect, preserve, and distribute information and materials on Korean music and culture. Last but not least, CKMCR strives to increase mutual cooperation among other similar research and academic organizations both in the United States and abroad and expand exchange of information, materials and knowledge.
CKMCR will network with an international community of scholars and performers to promoting, exchanging, and advancing the in-depth study of Korean music and culture as a distinctive cluster of traditions.
CKMCR will review scholarly research papers and will offer a prize in recognition of the most distinguished student research paper on Korean music and culture to be presented at its planned annual conference.
CKMCR will also hold regularly scheduled symposiums at select academic locations throughout the United States. Such symposiums will feature research papers and performances that demonstrate the diversity and distinctiveness of Korean music and dance, exploring vocal and percussion, composition and dance and K-pop, both exploring what has been achieved and looking towards the future of Korean music and culture in our globalized world.
