In September 2015, the cumulative global sales of plug-in electric cars and light utility vehicles passed the one million unit milestone; plug-in electric vehicle sales reached this million milestone at a speed almost double that of hybrid electric vehicles. The global ratio of all-electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) has consistently hovered around 60:40 up until the first half of 2016, mainly as a result of the significant all-electric market in China. However, in the US and Europe, the ratio is approaching a 50:50 ratio.
