Europe represents the world's largest regional market for light-duty plug-in vehicles. As of September 2016, approximately 570,000 plug-in electric passenger cars were registered, and this represents 31.9% of the global stock. Even within the European regional market, a trend shows that the distribution of electric vehicle sales is not equal among all the member states; by the end of 2015, almost a quarter of all European plug-in stock was registered in the Nordic countries (Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, and Sweden), amounting to over 100,000 registered plug-in cars. In these countries, the combined registration of light-duty plug-in vehicles saw a 91% increase between 2014 and 2015, showing an unparalleled growth. Norway boasted the largest stock of light-duty plug-in vehicles at 121,300 units. France and the Netherlands followed behind Norway with 100,000 units and 98,300 units respectively. Trailing behind these countries are the UK, Germany and Sweden with 90,000 units, 67,000 units, and 26,000 units respectively.
