The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has invested its attention and funding into four main areas: light water reactor sustainability, waste management and disposal, advanced nuclear power reactors and small modular reactors (SMRs). Overall, it can be seen that the Office of Nuclear Energy received a reduction in funding by $6 million. The comparison of the FY 2015 and 2016 budgets for the Office of Nuclear Energy can be seen in Figure 1.
