The Versa)le Test Reactor (VTR) is a na)onal strategic tool which can support advanced reactors over life)mes. Globally, access to fast neutron irradia)on capabili)es for tes)ng purposes is very limited, and none currently exists in the United States. The VTR is a fast neutron irradia)on capable tes)ng facility that is being built in the US to fill this gap. The VTR will advance innova)ve technologies by allowing for tes)ng to begin on commercial viability and licensing. Furthermore, the VTR will be vital for con)nuous technology improvements and sustaining long- term commercial reactor opera)ons. The VTR’s benefit will not only be limited to advanced reactor designs because the VTR’s capabili)es will allow for advanced fuel tes)ng, innova)on, and development in conven)onal commercial reactor designs such as accident tolerant fuels.
